Animal Masks

Artist Statement

As a child I was at home with animals and nature but lost in the company of most humans. My good times were my countless mini-nature expeditions with dogs in-tow.

In the third grade I was introduced to the Ancient Egyptians. The arts and mythology were seductive. Animals as goddesses and gods adorned with jewelry were throughout the culture. This ancient human connection to nature was missing in my white suburban environment. I studied primal and old civilizations focusing on artful animal objects. My life long passion for animals and culture wisdom merged in my art. I came to understand that all forms of life are interconnected in the universal web of all existence. We humans are catastrophically severing the foundations of earths existence.

    • Hi Kimmy. I love Hilarey’s work! Am planning to start a collection soon. If I may ask, which 27 masks do you have in your collection, and how do you display them? Thank you. Harry

    Hilary!

I loved seeing your site. Your work is beautiful!!!

I too remember that third grade teacher at Russell.

So glad you and my sister still remain in contact.

Your mom caught the bouquet at my wedding and got married shortly after. A memory that still make me smile.

    Love, Terri (Cheryl’s favorite sister)
